MANILA — International Master (IM) Petronio Roca defeated National Master (NM) Mario Mangubat after 57 hits from the Sicilian closed defense using the black pieces to keep the lead after four rounds in the Senior National Championship online final virtually chess held at the Tornelo platform on Sunday, November 28.
Roca remained in the lead with 4 points out of four wins in 4 outings. He is half a point ahead of the International Master (IM) Angelo Young and the International Master (IM) Chito Garma.

“I’m going to have to play a little more cautiously now, but I live victory if there is an opportunity,” said Roca, whose local and international chess campaign is supported by Dasmarinas representative Elipidio “Pidi” F Barzaga Jr. and Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Deputy Director General Teroso “Theo” O. Panga.
