Pacquiao holds firm against ‘Carlsen’ in charity chess match – Manila bulletin
Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao stood up to a 10-year-old chess app version of classic world champion Magnus Carlsen in a one-match charity chess showdown on Friday dubbed Magnus Carlsen Celebrity Charity Challenge.
Pacquiao, an avid chess player, played white and lasted 41 moves before going checkmate.
It was the second longest game to date for a celebrity at the charity event behind FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, who made 49 strokes before losing.
Pacquiao was also much better than most who challenged Carlsen’s app version, which included actors Rain Wilson (30 hits), Cuba Gooding, Jr. (16) and Joe Mantegna (13) and the champion. of karting and Formula E Maximilian Gunther (14).
None, however, had ever beaten Carlsen.
