Mauritanian Sidi Beide wins the Open Blitz Chess Championship
DOHA: The second edition of the Open Blitz Chess Championship – organized by the Qatar Chess Training Center ended with the participation of 66 players.
The title was won by Mauritanian player Sidi Beide with 6.5 points, leaving second place to Filipino Ryan Mendoza, while third place was secured by Egyptian player Asaad Abu al-Atta.
In fourth place, Indian Irfan Suleiman, while fifth place went to Joya Florin.
Sixth place was secured by the general secretary of the Qatar Chess Federation (QCF), Youssef Mohamed al-Mutawa.
Qatari player Youssef Ahmed al-Abdullah also managed to win the best Qatari player award.
In the under-16 category, Indian player Sajjan al-Ben won first place and in the same category, Saad al-Sulaiti won the Best Qatari Player (U16) award.
At the end of the competitions, organized under the supervision of the Qatar Game Federation, Yousef Mohamed al-Mutawa,
General Secretary of QCF, crowned the winners with medals and trophies.
He said yesterday: “The tournament had a great buzz among the participants and it clearly started with the convergence of points at the end of the competitions. The tournament generated a lot of interest from all participants. I expect an increase in the number of participants in future tournaments.
He added, “Qatar Chess Federation is keen to organize various activities and events on an ongoing basis, especially as it helps us to engage with chess fans in the country. brings several positives, including expanding the game in line with Qatar Vision 2030 by preparing a chess-conscious generation that will be able to represent our national teams at international events.
