Checkmate in a chess tournament
Emalahleni Chess Academy held a Spring Chess Tournament and it turned out to be a success.
The tournament took place on Saturday, September 3 at Lynnville Hall. Young and old participated in the tournament in different age categories.
The academy aims to promote the game of chess locally, to organize and coordinate chess tournaments, to produce competitive chess players and to give learners the opportunity to play chess and not be involved in illegal street activities like drugs, alcohol and others. .
The academy also aims to create confidence in taking responsibility.
Fortune Macassa, president of the academy encouraged the players to take their game seriously as they were organizing other tournaments in the future so that they could compete against other players in the province and in national championships and even at an international level.
In the open section, Phumaza Tholo was the winner, Doctor Machacha came second and Bongani Ndala was ranked third.
In the u.17 section Siyabonga Phamla was the champion, Ashley Boshielo was second and Luhe Sotabu was third and in the u.12 section Siyathando Mdluli was the champion, Sibusiso Maceha second and Simanga Mahlangu came third.
The winners received medals and the champions also received trophies.
Two fathers Mr Thabo Mahlangu and Mr Thami Mahlangu came to support their children during the tournament.
