‘Checkmate!’ by BorderLeap Brings Chess to iMessage in iOS 10 – TouchArcade

Once upon a time, if you wanted to play a game with someone who wasn’t in the same general area as you, the best way to do that was to play mail chess. Think it’s bad to deal with modern internet lag, try weeks lag through email services. And your game could end if the match gets lost! Sad! Fortunately, modern internet technologies have ensured that if our ping ever hits triple digits in milliseconds, we curse every engineer for being so incompetent. But BorderLeap is here to take you back to the days of mail chess with new features in iOS 10, with Checkmate! ($0.99) This lets you play a game of chess with someone via iMessage.

To start a game of chess with Checkmate, you use the new App Store icon in iMessage, with in-game movement updates sent via iMessage. Finally, you can combine asynchronous chess with waiting for chess by mail. But before, you couldn’t tell if your opponent was stalling – reading the receipts means you’ll know they’ve seen your clever ploy and are cooking on it. Haha! Technology makes everything better, except when it makes things worse! Checkmate is $0.99 and your games will sync across your different devices.
